POSITION SUMMARY: The Medical/Surgical/Pediatric nurse is a registered nurse who assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates the care of the patient assigned to the unit, performs clerical functions, performs RN duties as assigned, and is able to communication with the public, physicians, and other hospital personnel. The care provided to each patient is specific to the patient's particular physical, age-specific and psychosocial needs. The patient population served by this position includes infant, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric. The RN functions as team leader, overseeing LPNs & CNAs assigned to his/her team. JOB SPECIFICATIONS: EDUCATION: MINIMUM: Graduate of an approved nursing school. Licensure by the State Board of Nursing. PREFERRED: Bachelor's Degree EXPERIENCE: MINIMUM: 0 - 6 months PREFERRED: 1 year or greater CLINICAL SKILLS: Performs basic patient care. Performs broad array of nursing skills. Conducts physical assessments. Differentiates between normal and abnormal findings. Delegates appropriately. Assists physicians with procedures & rounds. Conducts patient education. Employs critical thinking in carrying out nursing care. ADMINISTRATION SKILLS: Answer telephones. Balance figures. Compiles statistics. Coordinate events. Coordinate meetings. Maintain filing systems. Maintain logs. Maintain patient charts. Proofread documents. Research information. Schedule appointments. MACHINE SKILLS: Calculator, fax, photocopier, diagnostic therapeutic patient care equipment, overhead paging system. |
