NORTON COMMUNITY HOSPITAL

JOB TITLE: L.P.N.

DEPARTMENT: PATIENT CARE SERVICES

POSITION SUMMARY:    Performs assigned nursing procedures under the direction of the Registered Nurse.  This includes personal care, specimen collection, medication administration including intravenous therapy, nursing procedures, portions of the admissions assessments and limited patient education.  Assists with processing physician orders to include transcription and order entry.  Assists in orientation of new nurses.  The care provided to each patient is specific to the patient's particular physical, age-specific and psychosocial needs.  The patient population served by this position includes infant, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION:      MINIMUM:         High school diploma or GED; Licensed by an accredited school of nursing.

EXPERIENCE:    MINIMUM:         0 - 6 months

                PREFERRED:      1 - 2 years

CLINCIAL SKILLS:          Assist with transcribing, receiving, and noting physicians orders, basic patient care, collection of patient data, IV therapy, transfusion therapy, sterile technique, medication administration, CPR, body mechanics, specimen collection, barrier technique, managing drains and tubes, suctioning, patient and family education.  Assisting physicians with rounds and procedures, patient education, discharge instructions.

ADMINSTRATION SKILLS:           Answers telephones.  Balance figures.  Compiles statistics.  Maintains logs.  Maintain patient charts.  Research information.  Schedule appointments.

MACHINE SKILLS:          Calculator, fax, photocopier, diagnostic and therapeutic equipment, overhead paging system and computer use.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
