JOB TITLE: MEDICAL LABORATORY TECHNICIAN/TECHNOLOGIST

DEPARTMENT: LABORATORY

POSITION SUMMARY:                                    Performs a variety of complex clinical laboratory analyses on blood, body fluids, and other biological specimens to obtain data which may be used in the diagnosis, monitoring, and treatment of disease.  Performs additional procedures and related duties following established professional standards and practices within the field of laboratory medicine.  The care provided to each patient is specific to the patient's particular physical, age-specific and psychosocial needs.  The Operations Manager of Laboratory Services is responsible for coordinating the day-to-day management/supervision of the laboratory.  The patient population served by this position includes neonate, infant, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION:                                                      MINIMUM:         High school diploma or GED equivalent and a minimum of 6 months working experience in the field of medical technology/laboratory medicine and successful completion of a CAHEA accredited Medical Technology program with current certification as a Medical Technician/Technologist or equivalent awarded by a nationally recognized professional certifying agency.

                                                                                PREFERRED:      Baccalaureate degree in medical technology or a closely related scientific field from a regionally accredited college/university and successful completion of a CAHEA accredited Medical Technology program with current certification as a Medical Technician/Technologist or equivalent awarded by a nationally recognized professional certifying agency.

EXPERIENCE:                                                    MINIMUM:         6 - 12 months

                                                                                PREFERRED:      1 - 2 years

ADMINISTRATION SKILLS:                         Answer telephone.  Compile statistics.  Develop/write technical procedures.  Input data into computer system/programs.  Maintain logs.  Proofread documents.  Research information.  Use computer packages to prepare graphics.  Use computerized spreadsheets to conduct analyses.

MACHINE SKILLS:                                          Diagnostic/Clinical Laboratory Instrumentation.  Personal computer and peripherals.  FAX.  Photocopier.  Telephone.  TV/VCR.  Calculator.  Overhead paging system.

 Additional Information

Weekend and/or Holiday Rotation may be required.
Rotating Shifts may be required.
